چکیده
Background: Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a genetic disorder characterized by the development of benign tumors in multiple organs and tissues, especially brain, kidneys, heart, lungs, skin. Brain lesions are frequently associated with cognitive deficits, neuropsychiatric disorders, learning disabilities, seizures. Seizures occur approximately 80% patients 30% to 60% them had West Syndrome (WS).

Genetic aspects of tuberous sclerosis in the west of Scotland.
Complete ascertainment of tuberous sclerosis was attempted in the west of Scotland (population 2,763,000). A total of 101 patients was identified, giving an overall minimum prevalence of 1 in 27,000, but for children under 10 years of age the minimum prevalence was 1 in 12,000. Both parents of 84 of the ascertained cases were assessed for signs of tuberous sclerosis. In 51 pairs of parents no e...

متن کاملNeurological and neuropsychiatric aspects of tuberous sclerosis complex.
Tuberous sclerosis (also known as tuberous sclerosis complex [TSC]) is a multisystem genetic disorder that affects almost every organ in the body. Mutations in the TSC1 or TSC2 genes lead to disruption of the TSC1-TSC2 intracellular protein complex, causing overactivation of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) protein complex. The surveillance and management guidelines and clinical criteri...

Tuberous sclerosis complex is characterized by hamartomatous lesions involving skin, brain, kidneys, eyes and heart. Pathologically, tuberous sclerosis is a disorder of cell migration, proliferation and differentiation. Cell lineage and cell migration disorders in the developing cortex of tuberous sclerosis complex patients might produce very different neurological phenotypes including epilepsy...

Treatment of west syndrome in patients with tuberous sclerosis, the relevant effective period and doses of vigabatrin (VGB) to avoid serious side effects still needs further investigation. We report on a Japanese girl who showed good results with a very low dose of VGB. Tonic spasms appeared at 5 mo of age. Adrenocorticotropic hormone therapy resulted in incomplete seizure control. VGB at the l...
